Rappresentare banalmente ciò che esiste è un atto di poco significato per l'artista, perché ciò che esiste è già sotto i nostri occhi, e quindi lo possiamo vedere e sperimentare direttamente; ancora meno significante è riprodurlo fedelmente, riducendo l'arte a un mero esercizio di stile. Dove questo accade, c'è assenza di arte. E Paolo Grassino lo ha capito perfettamente mettendo in scena la sua sostenibile visibilità dell'assenza. Notwithstanding the mediation of how he practices art and the medium of his technique and material, Paolo Grassino never loses sight of the real world that surrounds him or of society and its contradictions; rather, these serve as his muses as he criticizes the present and offers his original interpretation. Representing banally what exists is, for the artist, an act with little meaning, because what exists is right in front of him, and so we can see and live it directly; still less meaningful is a faithful reproduction of what we see as it reduces art to a mere exercise in style. Where this happens, there is an absence of art. And Paolo Grassino understands this perfectly here he presents us his sustainable visibility of absence.
