This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Holiness are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore four topics, from different verses in the book of Acts. They are: Giving heed to God or man; Heart, not right before God; and Self-control.
Excerpts:
Giving heed to God or man
“Unforgiveness is the brother of bitterness, which the bible says is a root that causes defilement, and the evil end of it cannot easily be unveiled (Hebrews 12:14-15).”
Heart, not right before God
“He did not know that he needed to humble himself under the mighty hand of God so that in due season he would be elevated (1Peter 5:6). He did not know that God is the judge and he lifts up one and puts down the other (Psalm 75:7). He did not know that God judges based on the heart, the place of motivation and not appearance (1Samuel 16:7). It is not just about what you do but why you do it which shows the heart.”
Self-control
“We should be able to push back the cloud of an uncomfortable emotion at a particular time and focus on the word of God. We are not designed to run on feeling but on the word of God; so said Jesus when he was replying to one of the temptations of the devil (Matthew 4:1-4).The bible says that the person who have no control over his emotions is a like a city without walls, subject to outside invasion, subject to unhindered outside influence. God wouldn’t want that; he wants to be you only influence.”
