This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Jesus are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore five topics, from different verses in the books of Philippians, 1Timothy and Titus. They are: Jesus is Lord; Grace, faith and love in Christ Jesus; One God, one mediator; Christ: proclaimed among the nations; and He saved us.
Excerpts:
Jesus is Lord
“After David’s dominion/lordship has been established in Israel he sought the glory of God, to build him a befitting building. He was not content to dwell in a palace of cedar while the ark of God sat under a tent (2Samuel 7:1-5). For that he invested material and intellectual resources, making massive amount of gold available for the building and design the building.”
Grace, faith and love in Christ Jesus
“The things that are in the world are: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. These reflect what people pursue apart from God. There is the need to possess things that drives people (lust of the eyes), need to meet the (sometimes legitimate) needs of the body (lust of the flesh), and also need to be rated highly by men (pride of life). It is in those three ways that the love of the world manifest. And the two main ways that love is expressed in real terms is in the use of time and money, either love for God or of the world.”
One God, one mediator
“The name of any departed Christian called saint by the Catholic Church or any other church for that matter will not do. That will be mere deception and an attempt to downgrade Jesus Christ. He is Lord of all (Acts 10:36), and He is all we need. There is only one God and one mediator.”
Christ: proclaimed among the nations
“John puts it’s this way: the Word who was with God in the beginning, who was God, became flesh and dwelled among us. God walked, lived and breathed on the earth for thirty something years. He came to change our being, how we behave, what we believe, and where we belong eternally.”
He saved us
“David prayed: for your namesake lead me and guide me (Psalm 31:3). And the Holy Spirit in his work of renewal, leads us in the way we should go, leads us into all truth. Salvation is not a bus stop but a journey fuels by the Holy Spirit, who is our helper along the way (John 14:26).”
