This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Holiness are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seven topics, from different verses in the books of Genesis and Exodus. They are: The practice of hospitality; Exchanging the eternal for the temporal; Integrity; Sex and the testaments; Sin and hardness of heart; Separated to Christ and Holy to the Lord.
Excerpts:
The practice of hospitality
“We should be ready to serve God’s needs. One of it is to worship Him in Spirit and truth (John 4:21-24). That is hospitality when it comes to God.”
Exchanging the eternal for the temporal
“You need to be in the direction God wants you to be going and at the pace God wants. You can’t spend your days beating about the bush. You need to be on the journey for the eternal reward, and refuse to be hindered or distracted along the way. The Lord be with you. Amen.”
Integrity
“Paul said that we should act wisely towards those who are outside, walking circumspectly not as fools but wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:13-20). And walking in wisdom involves walking in integrity. When we walk in integrity, our consistency and truthfulness will be an example to others, and we shine as light.”
Sex and the testaments
“And as Christ struck with the church regardless of our mess, you are to stick with your spouse no matter what. At worst carry it as your cross.”
Sin and hardness of heart
“The psalmist wrote: thy (God) word I have put in my heart that I may not sin against you (Psalm 119:11). Constant exposure and embrace of the word of God ensures that hardness of heart is far from us.”
Separated to Christ
“While the blood of Jesus sanctified us with regards to sin, the word of God sanctifies us is with regards to inward change (transformation) and the Holy Spirit sanctifies with regards to spiritual service.”
Holy to the Lord
“Pure gold, on which the inscription of holiness to the Lord was written for the high priest, represents the highest of standards. That is what God holds his people. We are his representatives and we should holy as he is holy. The evolving nature of the society does not cancel that calling on our lives. We are to stand as holy to the Lord, as a testament to a wayward generation, of the truth and reality of God.
“Is that too much? First, agree that it is possible.”
