This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Purpose, Pursuit and Motivation are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore thirteen topics, from different verses in the books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes. They are: ‘I will seek God’ 1 & 2; Commitment to God; 3 components of Purpose; Between the transient and the eternal; Building and breaking strongholds; Trust and the armour of God; Spiritual thirst; Sing to God; Guided by God; Preparation: time, plan and foresight; 3 dimensions of Time and The gift of youth.
Excerpts:
‘I will seek God’ (1)
“And after he left that place of prayer it was clear to him that there was no going back on the task, he had to die on the cross. It was the ultimate sacrifice but the time of prayer strengthened his resolve to do the will of God no matter what. How effective your prayer life is, shows in how much you live for God when you leave the prayer room, how your life reflects the good, acceptable, perfect will of God.”
 ‘I will seek God’ (2)
“Head knowledge does not bother the devil; it is spiritual knowledge that irks him. That is why he expends a lot of effort to blind the eyes of people so that the light of the gospel will not shine in them, to give them the true knowledge of salvation in Jesus Christ, of the deliverance and life that is in him. The devil knows that spiritual knowledge makes you liberated within (John 8:32). So he’ll rather have you chase shadows even as a Christian than embrace real spiritual truth, which you get from seeking God with all your heart. Therefore the devil wants to keep you from seeking God.”
Commitment to God
“If God has regard for you, that is enough even if men do not regard you. Every seeming disadvantage that you experience because you are for God is a set up for spiritual elevation. Even for Job, his commitment to God eventually got him elevated from the miry clay of despondency, to a refreshing end.”
3 components of Purpose
“Do you believe the word of God, that your work will be rewarded (2Chroniccles 15:7)? We need to maintain the pure and right motivation, it will keep us on the narrow road to the kingdom of God (Matthew 17:11-14).”
Between the transient and the eternal
“When Paul was admonishing the Corinthians to give to others, he said their giving will translate into many people giving thanks to God (2Corinthians 9:7-15). Their giving, which is service to others, is not just ordinary, it touched God; the transient touches the eternal and the transient acquires eternal colouration.”
Building and breaking strongholds
“Paul wrote about the light of the gospel shining in our heart (2Corinthians 4:6). And Jesus said we should go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation to them to gain salvation to lead us into truth and light.”
Trust and the armour of God
“You cannot go to others to preach to them about Jesus, and effectively so, if you are not convinced of what we want to say. Therefore, it was after Jesus had shown himself with many infallible proofs as being raised from the dead, that he sent the disciples to be his witnesses (Acts 1). Since you have trusted in Jesus, you now have the ministry of reconciliation, helping others to put their trust in Jesus.”
Spiritual thirst
“The Holy Spirit is the one who fills us with the longing for God, his presence in us shed abroad the love of God, longing for God, in us (Romans 5:5). That is why the Bible says as newborn babes we should desire the sincere milk of the word that we may grow thereby (1Peter 2:2). When we hunger for the Word of God, Jesus, we get to be like him.”
