This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Spiritual Growth are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore ten topics, from different verses in the book of Psalms. They are: Fountain of life; “My ears you have opened”; ‘I delight to do your will’; God’s glory; Meditating on God; Faith, glory, strength; It takes these two things to rule; Building up Zion; Seek God’s purpose, strength and presence; and Training the spirit and the soul.
Excerpts:
Fountain of life
“While fasting is to reduce us so that we can increase in divine life, prayer is to reduce human association in favour of divine association, to climb up to the mountain of God, to experience him, and reading the bible is to reduce in human opinion and gain divine opinion. That is the threefold cord that cannot be easily broken (Ecclesiastes 4:12). So, we need to have a prayer habit, and fasting habit and a bible reading habit.”
“My ears you have opened”
“Whatever the raging storm blocking your spiritual ears, God is ready and he is by his own force of grace, saying, “Be still (Mark 4:39)” to such emotional storms and the divine initiative is causing you to hear his word.”
‘I delight to do your will’
“There is relationship between of the word and the spirit. The Spirit helps you get in the word and in the word helps you contact the Spirit. When we are able to strike a balance between the Spirit and the word then we are home free, as we realise that the Spirit points us to Christ, the word, and the words of scriptures were inspired by the Holy Spirit, and a gateway to experiencing Him. Jesus, showing the relationship between the word and the spirit, said: the words that I speak to you they are spirit and life (John 6:63). Paul said that his preaching is not in words of men’s wisdom but the demonstration of the Spirit and of power (1Corinthians 2:4). He doesn’t want the faith of the people to be based on mere arguments, but on the power of God.”
God’s glory
“The manifestation of the sons of God which Paul talked about is all about unleashing the glory of God like never before on the earth through God’s vessels (Romans 8:18-21), who are dead to themselves by alive to God, dead to human acclaim but fully given to God, having no eye for human gain but eyes set on God. They will lead many from hell to heaven with the banner of the grace and power of God. They will not be afraid or back down, they will not be shaken, and they know that there is a kingdom that cannot be shaken.”
Meditating on God
“Let your mind be free right now of all impediments to the full blossoming of the word of God in it, therefore you will bless others in multiple folds. That is the harvest of your life, as it becomes visibly transformed by the word, as you meditate on God.”
Faith, glory, strength
“The body is the link of the soul and spirit to the physical world. Peter described it as a tabernacle (2Peter 1:13-14). The body is weak in sickness, which is why we need to take the provision of health that we have in Jesus seriously (1Peter 2:24). We cannot be ignorant of the devices of the devil calculated to run down the energy of our body. John prays for a man that he should prosper and be in health as his soul prospers, showing that the prosperity of the soul is reflected in the health of the body (3John 1:2).”
