This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Purpose, Pursuit and Motivation are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore four topics, from different verses in the book of Deuteronomy. They are: 3 Kinds of Journeys, Complete Obedience, More than Knowledge, How We Become Witnesses.
Excerpts:
3 Kinds of Journeys
“Sometimes, to fulfil the divine assignment of God we need to make a physical journey. God sent Jonah to Nineveh, but he had other ideas. He went in the opposite direction full of self-will but he was swallowed up by a whale and painfully redirected to his place of assignment.”
Complete obedience
“We are not supposed to be ignorant of the new tool of the internet, which allows a single individual, without leaving his house to actually fulfil the great commission as you deliver the counsel of God to people across the globe. With the internet, the barrier of the borders of nations is broken.”
More than knowledge
“The point is that as good as knowledge is, it is not everything, the heart is not developed by just packing it with knowledge, it is made to run on love. Love controls the action more than knowledge does. That is why Jesus said we should love the Lord our God with all our heart (Mathew 22:37). Love determines everything, even the way we pursue the knowledge of God.”
How we become witnesses
“They were on a roll; they had a duty to perform. The bible says that the knowledge of the glory of the lord will cover the earth as the water cover the sea and the disciples were going to do their part in bringing that to fulfilment (Habakkuk 2:14). They multiplied the influence of Jesus wherever they went as his witnesses.”
