This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Purpose, Pursuit and Motivation are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore twelve topics, from different verses in the book of Luke. They are: “What shall we do?”; Reward in heaven; Full of light; Seek His Kingdom to experience additions; Repayment; Make me; Work ethics; Receiving the Kingdom like a child; To see Jesus; Seeking to save the lost; The Lord has need of you; and Watch yourselves.
Excerpts:
 “What shall we do?”
“While the feeling of inferiority preserves self , the feeling of superiority prefers self, but the only thing recommended for those who well do the will of God is to proscribe self, be blind to it and give your hand to be led by God since that was what you wanted when you asked him: “what shall I do?””
Reward in heaven
“Since persecution is humbling, humiliating, and the bible says that the humble have more grace (James 4:6-7), so congratulate yourself if you are persecuted because you just qualified for great grace (Acts 4:33).”
Full of light
“Job’s continued stance of commitment to God in the face of the severe disasters that came upon him was mocked by his wife, who told him: curse God and die, what do you gain or what have you gained now for all your devotion (Job )? Job did not fall for the trap, and till now he remains an example of a light bearer.”
Seek His Kingdom to experience additions
“As those who are committed to God, which does not translate into a life of deprivation, instead, we win on both ends. We find the kingdom, since when we seek we find, and we have our needs met as a consequence of that. Its all-round fulfilment: that is the kingdom package.”
Repayment
“That is following the example of Jesus who for the joy set before him, the eternal joy of his reward, endured the cross (Hebrews 12:2), sacrificed himself as the lamb of God (John 1:29), did good to us, even if it meant going through harm himself.
“And he was amply repaid. The bible says that he sees the result of the travail of his soul and he rejoiced (Isaiah 53:11).”
Make me
“Jesus said that man shall not live by food alone by every word that proceeds for the mouth of God (Luke 4:1-4). What is the word proceeding from the mouth of God for you sustenance, your fulfilment, success, satisfaction this year, this month, this week, and today? We live based on the word of God, and we serve based on that.”
Work ethics
“Or after you make the sacrifice, do you now act as if, somehow, God owe you something, so you serve but you grumble in the process, like the elder brother in the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32)?”
Receiving the Kingdom like a child
“The bible says the whole body grows when every part supplies what it is meant to be supplied. If you are not willing to receive, it means you are full of yourself. Paul said we should think soberly about ourselves, as God has given everyone a measure of faith. You do not have everything, there is something someone else has that can benefit you and you should willing to receive it (Romans 12:3-10).”
To see Jesus
“There are barriers to seeing Jesus all around us. We must be brave, we must be resolute, we must be undeterred, unbending in our resolve to see Jesus, gain more of his knowledge, wisdom and power, to see his glory manifest in our lives and through it.”
Seeking to save the lost
“Jesus said that there is more joy over a lost and found sheep than for the 99 which were never lost. He said there is joy among the angels in heaven, which you will also share.”
