This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of the Ministry of the Word are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seven topics, from different verses in the book of Jeremiah. They are: 3 sides of the Word of God; The performing word; Being fed on knowledge and understanding; Is the bible confusing?; “What I did with the Word”; Teaching; and Confined but with the word.
Excerpts:
3 sides of the Word of God
“He calls the bible the engrafted word which is able to save our soul (the centre of our emotion, will and mind) with Paul saying that we should be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:1-2). James also calls the word of God the mirror and also the perfect law of liberty. It tells us what we are and frees us to be that, respectively.”
The performing word
“In summary, the performing word can be divided into two: 1. The word that performs miracles of healing, provision and supernatural guidance, and 2. The words that create/declare events, displaying God control of the human history/events. All in all the word is the divine raw material for a manifestation of the supernatural character of God.”
Being fed on knowledge and understanding
“Many people across the world are suffering from severe malnutrition; aids are needed to be sent to those places. But if you look through spiritual lens, some people who are full of food are starved of spiritual truth. They may be obese in medical terms, but when weighed on a spiritual scale, they are so lightweight that any wind of false knowledge can sweep them away.”
Is the bible confusing?
“God said if anyone wants to boast it should be that he knows him (Jeremiah 9:24). That is real riches, the knowledge of God. That was what Jesus described as his mission on earth, that the disciples may know the Father as the only true God (John 17:1-8). He manifested God on the earth. We are also to manifest him on the earth too in all ways. Through that, what the bible says will be realised, that the knowledge of the glory of God will cover the earth as the water cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14).”
“What I did with the Word”
“Job says that God’s word is more precious to him than his “necessary” food. The body needs food just as your soul needs the word. James says you should take in (ingest) the word of God so that out soul would be saved (James 1:21). You ingest the word into your soul, the centre of your thinking, emotion, and decision. The result cannot be anything less than exciting. You will live a life that characterised by healing in your heart and the glory of God manifest in your life. Because, when the word becomes flesh in your life after you have ingested it, the effect you will see is the glory of God (John 1:14).”
Teaching
“There is no magic about it. While the devil is marshalling his lies which come with darkness, we need to be armed with the truth to be able to resist. That was the example that Jesus gave us. When the enemy came to trip him with temptation Jesus was able to rise up against him using the word of God as the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). He told the devil: “it is written…,” and so was not deceived.”
Confined but with the word
“They expressed faith in God by their prayer and praise resulting in an earthquake that broke away their chains. They were physically in confinement but their spirits were not. They kept their sights on God, they would not back down but become more fired up in their passion even while in confinement. They did not say that until God shows up to save us, we would keep sulking. They continued to stand for truth, to stand up for the word, in confinement.”
